It’s interesting to hear the kinds of things students say to justify their opinions. They firmly believe that some teachers are picking on them when they punish them for talking /eating /slacking in class. Some students will ascribe God-like powers of knowledge to teachers, and will complain if a teacher claims not to know the answer to an entirely random question.
And sometimes they’re convinced that teachers couldn’t possibly know anything which they would consider to be ‘cool’, and will assume that teachers are bluffing.
In the past few weeks, I’ve had 2 contradictory statements made about me by students, one on the offence and one in defence. I’m glad that they aren’t sure about me. The first comment was “Have a good weekend Mr, lay off the weed.” It was said at that sub-audible level where it’s easiest to ignore, as the student was saying it to impress a friend, and didn’t really want me to hear it. The second comment was, “oh, he wouldn’t know what it smelt like anyway!” Nice to know that some students think of me as too square to know about illegal shenanigans.
Of course, the number of students who smoke pot at school would be a crash-course for most teachers in beach-type schools, regardless of their past experiences ;)
On a decidedly other track, the game last night was lots of fun. There was more game than there was time, so parts were a little rushed, but it was still worthwhile and enjoyable. The original Hound of the Baskervilles can be found
here.
And the
cosplay page I made for the TGS cosplay has had over 200 visits! Being linked to from the Armageddon site led to a huge jump. Nice to know the work and photos are being appreciated!
