I lost a minute at some stage. Sorry for the rubbish:
It didn't have to be difficult, but Jay seemed determined to make it so. Was he deliberately trying to upset me? All my friends said that he wasn't right for me and now I was beginning to agree with them.
Bright lights shone down on the two of us, I could see he was starting to sweat. Cold drinks and nibbles were waiting for us, if only we could finish this charade. Days ago, I suggested that we rehearse the handover ceremony, naturally, Jay refused saying it would ruin the spontaneity. In spite of myself, I agreed. April told me to follow my instincts and I regretted not doing so.
And now, here we were stuck on a stage while Jay tried to spontaneously come up with an acceptance speech that didn't make him sound like an idiot. The audience was growing restless watching him. Clocks could be heard ticking in the silence and time seemed to stretch out forever.
Were we ever going to get to have lunch?
Striking a blow for freedom, I handed Jay the keys and began to talk. Thirteen minutes later it was all over, the speech, the relationship and the free lunch.
Thanks. I had to do something to end it. It was just long and sprawling and going nowhere. Quite good fun though. I lost a minute in the middle somewhere due to Beau *talking* to me. Gosh! Couldn't he see I was doing my English Homework?

That's a great last sentence. Classic.
